My Journey to CES 2022 - What's Your Tech Repair Strategy? – Day 2
Day 2 at CES 2022 is in the books and what a day it was. In between a few planned meetings I spent most of my day on the show floor talking to OEMs who are here to promote new products and services. I had one main question for them. WHAT’S YOUR TECH REPAIR STRATEGY? If I were handing out grades it would mainly be an ‘F’ with a whole lot of incompletes.
Most, if not all of these companies, don’t have a coherent strategy
for when their product breaks. And the few that do have an expensive/inconvenient
one. Why? Because 1) They don’t have a clue as to what could go wrong, and 2) Like
I have said a million times before THEY DON’T KNOW YOU (Tech Repair) EXIST!
Here’s the problem OEMs. If something goes bad – and with
tech something ALWAYS goes bad – it’s going to cost you to fix it. And it could
cost you everything. Seriously. Think about it this way. If your customer has
an issue and you don’t solve it immediately (it’s an on-demand world we live
in). That customer(s) is going to give you a bad review and tell everyone they
know about how bad your product is to everyone on social media.
If you’ve got endless financial resources, like Apple, then
your fine. You just buy your way out of it. You’ll do exactly what Apple did
when they launched the iPhone. Anything breaks and they just swap it out for a
new one. Problem is, you’re not Apple. But you can end up handling you tech
repair problem better than Apple.
WHY TECH REPAIR IS YOUR BEST OPTION
First, most of the issues you will encounter will be simple
ones for a tech repair professional. Talked to guy today whose products main issue
is “loose wires” that has to be shipped back to them, fixed, and shipped back
to the customer. Put together a short video and any tech repair professional
can do the job for you in less than 24 hours without any shipping.
Second, and most importantly, the customer gets resolution
with a minimal hassle factor for them.
And here’s the very best part. Your company goes from zero
to hero almost immediately. You take a bad situation that could lead to some
bad PR to a company that cares about their customers enough to take care of the
tech you sold them. And you get bonus sustainability points for being a company
that truly cares about the planet.
