Here's Why We Need Independent Tech Repair People Now More Than Ever

Image
I've said it before and I'll say again and again - Independent Tech Repair People are some of the best and brightest people I know! We need them now more than ever!! A couple of months ago I posted in the Tech Care Association blog about how I know that " Tech Repair People Are Amazing - All Tech Can/Should Be Fixed ". Allow me to drill down on that point and show you how independent tech repair allows for creative independent thought that should be welcome by the OEMs and other big tech companies because it makes your product better. Christmas Day 2021 - A Personal Story My daughters needed new phones this year since both of them have much older, very beaten up phones that have been repaired multiple times -- my oldest completed a screen replacement herself about a year ago (picture on the right).  Both of them had previously purchased unlocked Nokia phones that they had certainl...

Big Win for the Right to Repair Movement, but...

Congratulations to everyone who has been fighting for the right to repair. Yesterday (June 10, 2021) the NY state Senate had a floor vote that was 51-12 in favor of right to repair. This is big in three ways; 1) It's the first bill to make it out of committee and actually get a floor vote, 2) It was also the first bill to win a floor vote, and 3) 51-12 is a healthy margin -- sounds like the Buccaneers vs. Lions last year.  If you're not familiar with how a bill becomes a law now is a good time to review the School House Rock video on the subject. I'm Just a Bill (Schoolhouse Rock!) So a hardy congratulations to everyone at Repair.org, iFixit, US PIRG, and the newly formed Fight for Repair organization.  This is a hard fought victory and these good people deserve all of the credit for continuing the fight. If you care about the right to repair then they also deserve your financial support! Gamechanger, Right? Yea, sure it is. A win is a win is a win. This wi...

RIGHT TO REPAIR - An Election Win For Some As The Fight Goes On For The Tech Repair Industry

Image
While our country remains divided on who the next president will be, among other issues, one thing is clear – seriously just one thing because this election cycle was a bare knuckle brawl up and down the ballot all over the country – people all over the country want THE RIGHT TO REPAIR  and the freedom to do whatever they want to do with the stuff they own! In a clear, without a shadow-of-a-doubt, win (by knockout) 74.9%of the voters in Massachusetts said “screw you auto manufacturers, we want to be able to fix our cars when and where we choose.” This is a huge victory for the right to repair movement and will help companies in the automotive industry gain more market share. Let me repeat that for the people on the backrow. A right to repair victory means MORE BUSINESS for those that are in the auto repair business. It means more business for anyone and everyone in this industry. Especially the small business owners who support local communities across the country! QUICK H...
